Chillva Market Phuket: Night Market Guide

Chillva Market Phuket: Night Market Guide

Chillva Market is a night market on Yaowarat Road in Phuket Town, open Monday to Saturday from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm and closed on Sundays (as of October 2026), with free entry. It is where Phuket’s teenagers and young adults eat, shop and listen to live music among shipping-container bars.

Most of Phuket’s markets are built around tourists. Chillva is the opposite: the crowd is mostly Thai, the clothes are mostly made by local sellers, and dinner with a drink costs a few hundred baht. This guide covers the hours, what to eat and what it costs, the shopping, the container bars, how to get there and how Chillva compares with Phuket’s other markets.

What Chillva Market Is

Chillva Market (ตลาดนัดชิลล์วา) is a container-themed night market in Phuket Town, with food stalls, clothing stalls, and bars built from shipping containers around a central stage. When it opened, The Thaiger reported a 20-million-baht project laid out in three zones (The Thaiger): a tent zone for homemade goods and local art, container shops for clothing and cocktails, and hawker stalls for street food.

It feels more like a neighbourhood hangout than a sight. Expect fairy lights, plastic stools, loud music and a crowd of mostly Thai teenagers and young adults (Phuket 101).

Opening Hours and Best Night to Go

The market opens Monday to Saturday from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm and is closed on Sundays, according to the bus operator Phuket Smart Bus (Phuket Smart Bus), and Phuket 101, both as of 2026. There is no official website, so check the market’s Facebook page before a special trip.

Arrive around 6:00 to 7:00 pm, when most stalls are open and the live music starts. Wednesday and Thursday evenings are the sweet spot; Friday and Saturday nights are livelier but noticeably more crowded (Phuket 101).

Sunday is the one night the market closes, which works out well: on Sundays you can go to the walking street market on Thalang Road in the Old Town instead.

What to Eat and What It Costs

Food is the main reason to go, and it is cheap: a full meal with drinks costs around 150 to 250 THB per person (as of October 2026, Phuket 101). These are typical prices:

Dish or drinkTypical price
Grilled pork skewers10–20 THB each
Fried rice or pad Thai50–80 THB
Grilled prawns or squid80–150 THB
Mango sticky rice60–80 THB
Apong (Phuket crispy crepe)20–30 THB
Thai milk tea25–35 THB
Beer at a container bar80–120 THB
Food prices reported by Phuket 101 (as of October 2026).

Walk one full lap before you buy anything, then share a few small plates. Look for apong, a thin, crispy Phuket-style crepe, and pick a seat in the open space between the containers. Shopping: Local Labels and the Vintage Night

The shopping at Chillva is mostly locally made clothing and accessories rather than fake brands, which sets it apart from the beach markets (Phuket 101). T-shirts start from around 130 THB and sunglasses from 100 THB (as of October 2026).

  • Tuesday: a vintage market sets up, with mostly thrift and second-hand clothing.
  • The Retro Area: at the back of the market, the part most visitors miss.
  • Container shops: small fashion labels and accessories in converted shipping containers.

Bring cash in small notes, and go early in the evening if you want first pick of the clothing stalls.

Container Bars and Live Music

The container bars are the heart of Chillva in the evening. In two corners of the market, small bars and restaurants sit inside converted shipping containers stacked two high, and the upstairs seating gives a decent view over the whole market (Phuket 101).

Chillva has a stage with live music most nights (Phuket 101). Beer at the container bars costs about 80 to 120 THB (as of October 2026).

Getting There and Parking

Chillva Market is at 141/2 Yaowarat Road in Phuket Town, on the road towards Patong Beach; look for the colourful shipping containers (Phuket 101). A taxi or ride-hailing car is the easiest way there.

  • From Phuket Old Town: a short taxi or ride-hailing trip, since Chillva is in the town rather than out at the beaches (Window on Phuket).
  • Smart Bus: Phuket Smart Bus lists a stop called Chillva Market / Samkong Area (Phuket Smart Bus); check the route and times in its app on the day.
  • Driving: there is a parking area next to the market; it gets busy on weekend evenings, so arrive early.

From the west-coast beaches, Chillva is a cross-island trip. Combine it with an afternoon in the Old Town rather than making a special journey; our Phuket Old Town guide covers the streets to walk first.

Chillva vs Naka and the Sunday Market

Phuket Town has three evening markets that are easy to confuse, and they run on different nights. Chillva is the weeknight choice with a young local crowd; Naka is the big weekend market; and the Sunday walking street fills Thalang Road in the Old Town.

For the full weekend market, see our Naka Weekend Market guide. If you are in town for one evening, choose Chillva on a weeknight and the Old Town walking street on a Sunday.

Is Chillva Market Worth It?

Chillva is worth it if you are staying in or near Phuket Town, or spending the day in the Old Town: it is free, the food is cheap, and it shows how young Phuket spends its evenings.

Chillva is not worth a long drive from Kata, Karon or Bang Tao on its own. The crowd is mostly young and Thai, and the market is for eating and browsing local fashion rather than souvenir shopping.
