Phuket FantaSea: Show, Tickets and Tips

Phuket FantaSea is a night-time Thai cultural theme park at Kamala on Phuket’s west coast, built around one big stage show, Fantasy of a Kingdom, at 9:00 pm. A ticket with the buffet dinner costs 2,200 THB for an adult (as of October 2026), and the park opens on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday evenings only.

Phuket FantaSea has been running since 1998, long before the island’s newer attractions, and its show still runs in a 3,000-seat theatre. It is a polished, very commercial evening that some travellers love and others find dated. This guide covers what the show is like, ticket prices, open days, how to plan the night, how it compares with Carnival Magic next door, and how to get there.

What Phuket FantaSea Is

Phuket FantaSea is a 30-acre evening theme park where everything, from the show to the restaurant and the shopping street, is themed on Thai legends and folklore (FantaSea: park information). FantaSea had its soft opening on 20 December 1998 and its grand opening on 6 February 1999, and it calls itself the world’s first Thai cultural theme park.

FantaSea has no rides. An evening there is built from three parts: the Festival Village, a shopping street with street shows, games and stalls; the Golden Kinnaree, a 4,000-seat buffet restaurant; and the Palace of the Elephants theatre, where the main show runs. Your ticket includes park admission, and the park is only open to ticket holders, so you cannot drop in just to shop.

FantaSea is only open in the evening. The park says daytime is reserved for construction and maintenance, so there is no afternoon visit for photos.

The Fantasy of a Kingdom Show

Fantasy of a Kingdom is a Las Vegas-style stage show about Thai culture and legend, performed in the 3,000-seat Palace of the Elephants theatre (FantaSea: the show). The park says it features more than 150 cast members and 30 elephants, with magic illusions, acrobatics, aerial ballet and indoor pyrotechnics.

The story follows the Prince of Kamala and his magic elephant on a journey through Thai history, regional dances and myths such as Hanuman’s monkey warriors and the half-bird Kinnarees. The show runs about 70 minutes. Narration and songs are in English and Thai, but music carries most of the story, so it works without either language.

Photos and video are not allowed in the theatre. Phones and cameras go into the camera check booths or lockers at the security check before you go in, so take your photos in the park first. The theatre is fully air-conditioned and can feel chilly, so a light layer helps.

Tickets and Prices

Phuket FantaSea tickets cost 2,200 THB for an adult with the buffet dinner and 1,800 THB for the show only, according to the park’s official price list (phuketfantasea.fun; as of October 2026). All ticket types include park admission and VAT.

FantaSea has a one-price policy: official agents must sell at the park’s prices, and vouchers bought at an unauthorised discount may be refused. Issued tickets are non-refundable and cannot be changed. You can reserve up to 6 months ahead, and an unpaid booking must be collected at least one hour before the show or it may be cancelled.

Open Days and Show Times

FantaSea opens on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm (as of October 2026). Fantasy of a Kingdom is performed once a night at 9:00 pm, and the theatre gate opens at 8:20 pm.

On some pre-announced dates there is a second show at 7:00 pm. The Golden Kinnaree buffet serves from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, extended to 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm on busy days. The park opens on different days from Carnival Magic, so check which evening you are booking before you plan the rest of your week.

How to Plan Your Evening

FantaSea recommends arriving by 6:00 pm for the 9:00 pm show, and that is good advice. It leaves time for dinner, the street shows and the Festival Village before the theatre opens (FantaSea FAQs).

  • 5:30 to 6:00 pm: arrive and collect your tickets.
  • 6:00 to 7:15 pm: dinner at the Golden Kinnaree buffet (Thai and international dishes, a vegetarian line and a halal zone).
  • 7:15 to 8:45 pm: the Festival Village, the Viva Bangkok stage and shops.
  • 8:45 pm: walk to the theatre; the park says to allow 5 to 10 minutes from the entrance.
  • 9:00 to 10:10 pm: Fantasy of a Kingdom.

There is no dress code, but the park does not let guests in shirtless or in swimwear. Food and drinks from outside are not allowed anywhere in the park, including the car park.

Is Phuket FantaSea Worth It? The Honest Answer

Phuket FantaSea is worth it if you want one big, organised evening of spectacle with the family or a group. The theatre is huge, the stage effects are ambitious, and the night runs to a clear plan from dinner to the final curtain.

FantaSea is less worth it if you count the cost closely or want Thai culture as it is lived. For two adults with dinner and transfers, an evening is about 5,300 THB before drinks and souvenirs. The buffet is a large tourist buffet, the shopping is souvenir shopping, and the show is Thai culture packaged for an international audience.

Animals are part of the evening. Elephants appear in the show, and the park offers elephant rides and photos with tiger cubs bred in captivity. If animal welfare matters to you, you can skip those extras and still see everything else.

  • Go if: you are with children or a group, it is your first trip to Thailand, or rain has ruled out an evening on the beach.
  • Skip if: you want a quiet night, dislike crowds and loud effects, or prefer local markets and restaurants to staged shows.
  • Save money: the show-only ticket is 400 THB less than the dinner ticket for an adult; eat at Kamala first and arrive about an hour before the show.

Phuket FantaSea or Carnival Magic?

Phuket FantaSea and Carnival Magic are sister parks side by side at Kamala, but they are different evenings. FantaSea is built around one story-led stage show of Thai culture; Carnival Magic is a carnival with an indoor parade and a garden of lights, open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Our Carnival Magic Phuket guide covers that park in detail.

The parks open on alternating days, so you cannot do both in one night. The 2-park combo (3,700 THB per adult, both with dinner) covers two separate evenings, in either order, with a voucher valid for 14 days. If you only have time for one, pick FantaSea for a theatre show and Carnival Magic for younger children who want parades and lights.

Getting There

FantaSea is on Kamala Beach, about 23 km and 30 minutes by car from Phuket Airport and 9 km from Patong. The park’s own estimates of drive times are below.

The park’s shared transfer (450 THB per person return, as of October 2026) picks up from hotels across Phuket; after the show, the vans leave about every 10 minutes until midnight. If you drive, the car park is free for park guests, and there is a taxi (tuk tuk) station at the front of the park. Staying in Patong? Our Patong Beach guide covers that side of the island.
