In the evening the area around the market turns into a street food market with dozens of stalls: grilled skewers, pad thai, fresh seafood and mango sticky rice. Go in the morning for the fresh market and after dark for the food stalls.
Quieter Beaches Near Patong
When the main beach gets busy, head for Freedom Beach, a white-sand cove south of Patong reached by longtail boat or a steep jungle trail, with clear water for snorkelling. North of Patong, Kamala is about 20 minutes away and far calmer.

If you only have one day, this order keeps you out of the midday heat and the evening traffic:
